Welcome to my page, Janina Rose St. Clair Novels! I’m a retired theatre teacher, published playwright (under another name), actress, director, and author of my first novel, Rosalia: Never to Forget (still in progress but getting close to completion). I’ll update you when it’s finished.

 

     For those of you who love a good historical romance, my upcoming Rosalia series is for you! Telling you up front: It is not spicy. No! No! It is romantic. The first book begins with an accidental crime. Many of you who read the first chapter will scream, “Janina! You’re insane! That was a murder, pure and simple! Not an accidental crime!” Look for discussions about this and other issues raised in the book on my upcoming podcasts. I will provide links once we’re up and running!

 

     When Rosalia and Zofia, a starving peasant girl and her mother, find themselves without a male protector in a rural area called Poznan Province in 1902 Poland, they are desperate. A horrible man, Brunon Kaminsky, constantly pressures the girl to marry, but he is not only cruel but revolting in every way. The Poles are being oppressed by three countries: Germany, Austria, and Russia. Consequently, many are escaping the tyranny by travelling to America. However, the women have no money. They are trapped!

 

     After clinging to their rosaries and praying for a miracle, one arrives. Rosalia has an uncle, working in America. His employer, Zenon Herman, has just lost his wife. Just how he lost her is not truthfully told and becomes the genesis of terrible problems later. However, he offers both mother and daughter passage to America because he needs a young wife and mother for his little girl, Anna. Certain that Zenon is a gift from God, Rosalia and Zofia agree with full intentions that the daughter will marry upon her arrival. Everything changes when she falls in love with Dr. Rolf Becker, a young man who watches over the women during their voyage. Rosalia’s conflicted heart tears her to pieces.

 

     Rosalia: Never to Forget is not only about Rosalia, Zenon, and Rolf; it also follows the lives of friends she makes on the ship. Zelda, a Jewish girl who speaks multiple languages, is on her way to an arranged marriage when she meets a man who will be the hero of her life. Kasia, a girl with a scandalous past, thinks of nothing but rich men and obtaining beautiful things. They too will have their share of challenges and disappointments, but they emerge as women you would want for your best friends. The story is riveting with cliff hangers at the end of each chapter. You will not be disappointed!
